This short video by the National Science Foundation briefly describes why scientists use ice cores to understand our planet's past. This video documents the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) Divide ice coring project which took place from 2005-2013 (with more field seasons planned until 2018!) . The WAIS Divide ice core is a much deeper ice core (3,405 meters) compared to the future SPice core (anticipated to be 1,500 meters).
